Caption text: "Whining really isn't going to get you anywhere, Sally," said Uncle Edwin. "If you wanted to avoid this punishment, you should have done the gardening when you said you would. You were sent to me for strict discipline, and that's exactly what you're going to get."
"But...it's cold!" spluttered Sally, standing in the white cotton vest and knickers Uncle Edwin had provided. "It's pouring with rain! I'll freeze!"
"Not if you get moving, you won't," beamed her uncle. "Mind you, we will need to put your outfit in the wash when you're done. It does look very muddy out there."
Sally shivered as Uncle Edwin opened the door and pushed her outside, barefoot.
"I want the lawn immaculate and every last weed plucked (by the root, Sally! No cutting corners!). And I want you to start by picking out the stones among the raspberry bushes. For every stone I find, you'll get one strike with the slipper. Understand?"
Sally nodded miserably, put down her bucket and looked up to see more clouds gathering. She snivelled and shivered on her knees in the mud as she picked up her first tiny stone.
